My Relationship Story
You might wonder what led me to become a relationship coach. And I have to say that it feels like I have been preparing for this my whole life. You see, I grew up watching my parents in a very troubled relationship, and wanting to help “fix” it even as a young child. Looking for love in all the wrong places, I was married and divorced by age 24. No matter how much I longed for a healthy relationship, I kept making poor choices in love. At one point, I even cried out to God, “where is my happily ever after?”
My lowest point was after I was taken in by a con man who stole thousands of dollars from me and my family. It was devastating. There were gems to be found, though, from the healing. After this experience, I saw life in a different way. Less naive, I found a new strength and determination to have a different kind of relationship.
A year later, I met my current husband, a divorced father to two boys. We had both been previously hurt and it was rough at first. For the first years, we fought, yelled and even brought up divorce. But then we got help from a wonderful counsellor. She helped us uncover the layers of hurt and with God’s help, we both healed. And though we are still learning and growing, I truly believe we found our “happily ever after again … again.”
It was because of our experience of struggle that I started writing articles and books on marriage. I wanted to help others who had struggled as we did. As I wrote the books, I prayed and hoped that others would find comfort, reassurance and answers for their relationship troubles. And I wished I could help them in a more involved way. That is why I decided to start coaching. Because books only go so far. They can be useful and I hope they are. But coaches can help in a way that really makes a difference.
Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q’s)
- Is coaching just another word for counselling?
Good question! No, coaching is different than counselling. Counselling is a process where you focus on what happened in your past, in order to heal and get closure. You may look into your childhood and what shaped you to be the person you are today. Coaching focuses on what is happening now and on what you would like in your future. - How do I know if need counselling or coaching?
If you still need healing from your past history (especially for traumatic experiences), you would need counselling. If you have experienced healing but still need help in your current situation, coaching can help you deal with the present and future. - What does a relationship coach do?
A relationship coach helps you clarify what is really going on between the two of you and helps you gain a vision of what kind of relationship you would like to have. After gaining this vision, the coach will assist you in setting up mini-goals to improve your relationship, providing accountability and direction. - Do you work with couples or individuals?
I work with both couples or individuals. If you come as a couple, both people will have an opportunity to speak. If you want to just work on things by yourself, that’s great, too! It really depends on what you are comfortable with. - What do I need to start doing the coaching?
The first step is book a consultation call (booking form above) where we can discuss whether or not we are a fit for each other. If we decide to proceed, we will book our first session. I will send you an intake form and assessment form to fill out before our first appointment. - What are your qualifications?
I am a certified life coach from the Certified Coaches Federation. I am also a certified teacher with a Bachelor of Education, with ten years of classroom experience. - What is the cost of this service?
The cost depends on what package you choose. You can read more about packages available here.
