Today is Stepmother’s Day! If you are a stepmom, this is your day to celebrate and be celebrated. Help spread the word! It is not a highly recognized holiday but is official in the United States. We celebrate Stepmother’s Day the day after Mother’s Day.
I just wanted to remind you! If your partner is a stepmom, take the time to honour her contribution to your family, too. Last week, I talked about how painful Mother’s Day can be. Well, today makes up for it, at least a little bit.
Happy Stepmother’s Day, ladies! We are a growing tribe. Approximately 40% of new marriages are going to be blended in some way. We are not going away and we are definitely not alone, although we may feel like we are.
Thank you, stepmoms, for:
- having late night talks with milk and cookies
- learning to play video games (however poorly)
- helping to study for a test
- grocery shopping and picking up favourite treats
- giving smiles and hugs
- remembering birthdays
- helping your partner heal
- understanding the pain behind the anger
We stepmoms remember things. We remember:
- Birthdays and birthday presents
- Favourite foods and drinks
- Names of friends
- Favourite games
And we endure things, out of love. We endure being a stranger, feeling awkward, and letting things go. We are strong and brave, even when we don’t feel it.
